Cheney's last day as CUNA president/CEO, reflections of tenure

Yesterday marked the last day of Bill Cheney's tenure as president/CEO of the Credit Union National Association. Cheney joined CUNA in July 2010, following the retirement of Dan Mica, a former U.S. representative from Florida, who headed the trade association for 14 years.

Cheney is returning to California, where he served as president of the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues and was president of Xceed Financial CU, El Segundo, with $851 million in assets. He takes the helm of SchoolsFirst FCU, Santa Ana., Calif., from Rudy Hanley who is retiring after more than 30 years at the $10 billion-plus-asset credit union.

Cheney reflected on his new position, CUNA's achievements while he was president/CEO, his thoughts on the turnout of the risk-based capital proposal, and more. Read more about his reflections in the News Now story.

SCUCE gets underway with golf, young professionals, and exhibit hall

The Southeast Credit Union Conference and Expo (SCUCE) in Orlando began this morning with the golf tournament that benefits the Southeastern Credit Union Foundation. The day really ramps up by mid-morning with the Young Professional's Group session on Biz Kid$ financial education. The director's VAP education sessions also begin Wednesday.

The popular CEO and Director's Roundtables are Wednesday afternoon. These sessions give CEOs and directors the opportunity to really discuss the issues that matter most to them. The sessions spill over into the opening evening in the exhibit hall. This year more than 135 vendors, with 49 being new, will fill the exhibit hall giving credit unions a one-stop shop for all of their needs.

The conference really kicks into high gear on Thursday when the Opening General Session begins, as well as the first education sessions. Credit unions can engage in the conference through social media by posting the the League's Facebook and using #2014SCUCE on Twitter.

The SCUCE Silent Auction is coming up Friday night. If you would like to donate an item, there is still time! And, if you would like to see what items we already have up for bid and/or place an early bid while at the conference, visit Mediterranean 3, Main Level on Thursday, 9:30 a.m. - 5 p.m., and Friday, 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. We also have some of the items posted on our Facebook page.
