Vote is Delayed on U.S. Senate "Better Care Reconciliation Act"
Two days before the scheduled vote, the Congressional Budget Office released its report on the proposal and noted that the bill would cause 22 million people to lose their insurance over the next decade. Also prior to the expected bill, and following the CBO release, Senator Susan Collins announced that she would not support the bill. In a series of tweets announcing her opposition, Senator Collins noted that the bill did nothing but harm rural hospitals and also was critical of the medicaid cuts.
MMA will continue to share information with members on the proposal and will continue to oppose the bill without changes that are consistent with the principles for health care reform approved by the MMA Board this past January. Appropriate action now is to thank both Senator Collins and Senator King for their opposition to the bill.
