Perinatal Quality Conference This Saturday
The Maine Home Birth Collaborative, of which the MMA is an integral part, is sponsoring a symposium on perinatal quality that will be of interest to physicians, nurses, midwives, and all health care providers involved in prenatal, postnatal, and perinatal care.

The Maine AAP has a small grant from the developmental disabilities council to survey pediatric providers about how they are managing transition of care for children with developmental disabilities, kids with chronic health problems and kids in general from pediatric specialists to adult specialty care.
Physicians who want to contest potential payment penalties associated with the 2018 Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS) and/or the Value Modifier (VM) have until Dec. 1, 2017, to request an informal review of their data. The penalties in question stem from policies in effect prior to enactment of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act (MACRA). However, CMS has proposed some revisions intended to lessen the impact of prior policies and has based its calculation of related payment adjustments on these more lenient proposals.
Legislative Calls to Resume When Legislature Returns
The Maine Legislature is in recess at present. Should they return for a special session in the fall of 2017 (which the Governor has said will happen), the Weekly Update will feature articles concerning aspects of that work of interest to medicine. Otherwise, legislative report articles will resume, and Legislative Committee calls will begin, when the Legislature returns to Augusta in January 2018. Read More
