MMA Legislative Committee Meets to Prepare for Next Legislative Session

In addition to a review of the political makeup of the Legislature and a few of the MMA's legislative initiatives like the "Doctor of the Day" program, MMA staff reviewed for the attendees the current status of Medicaid expansion and gave a quick overview of bills carried over from committee, carried over from the Special Appropriations table, approved by the Legislative Council, and submitted by departments and agencies. The committee was filled in on the work of the opioid task force and the new Health Care Reform task force.

There was spirited discussion of a few significant issues including the upcoming midwifery rules and licensing board rules on opioid prescribing and CME. Participants in the meeting included a good number of physicians, along with allied health care advocates and liability insurance representatives.

Regular weekly legislative committee conference calls will start up again on Tuesday, January 9th, at 8 p.m. Watch the legislative section of the Weekly Update for call in numbers and topics to be discussed.
