Congress Approves Spending Bill Including Important Health Provisions

Early in the morning on Feb. 9, the Senate and House passed the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, which President Donald Trump then signed into law. Flu Cases Continue to Rise

The number of flu cases in Maine continues to rise, according to a Maine Centers for Disease Control weekly surveillance report. 876 new cases were reported, last week, an increase from the 530 cases reported the previous week.

Report on Opioid Health Homes Released by MaineCare

On Feb. 6, the Office of MaineCare Services sent to the DHHS Committee a program update on Opioid Health Homes (OHH) as required by the supplemental budget enacted early in 2017. An OHH is an integrated care delivery model focused on whole-person treatment for individuals with opioid use disorder who are receiving office-based Medical Assisted Treatment. Read More


Pharmacy Board Approves New Naloxone Rules

The Maine Board of Pharmacy last Thursday approved unanimously, without discussion, a new set of rules governing prescription of naloxone by pharmacists. There is one important change from the earlier set of rules.
