Maine Chapter, American College of Surgeons Conclude Successful Meeting in Kennebunkport
Speakers included John Weigelt, M.D., DVM, MMA, FACS, recently retired as Professor of Trauma Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin; Richard J. Barth, Jr., M.D., FACS, Professor of Surgery, Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth and Chief, Section of General Surgery, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center; Kristin L. Long, Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health, Sam Pakraftar, MB, Bch, BAO from MaineGeneral Medical Center; Jens Rueter, M.D., Medical Director, Maine Center Genomics Initiative, Jackson Lab, and George C. Velmahos, M.D., PhD, FACS, Chief of Trauma, Emergency Surgery & Surgical Care, Massachusetts General Hospital.

On Friday afternoon, Brad M. Cushing, M.D., FACS, Chief of Surgery at Maine Medical Center moderated a panel on Solutions for Rural Surgery that included James L. Clarke, M.D., FACS, from Eastern Maine Medical Center, Rodney Lahren of Northern Maine Medical Center, Samer Sbayi,M.D., MBA, FACS of Long Island, NY but formerly of Penobscot Valley Hospital in Lincoln and Dr. Weigelt.
During the Chapter business meeting on Sunday morning, President Jamie Loggins, M.D., FACS presented the President's gavel to Amy Tan, M.D., FACS who will lead the Chapter for the next two years. Damien Carter, M.D., FACS was elected President-Elect. Dr. Tan practices surgery at Blue Hill Memorial Hospital and Dr. Carter is Chief of the Burn program at Maine Medical Center.
Over 50 surgeons attending the meeting which was managed for the second year by the Maine Medical Association.
