Watch for Next Issue of Maine Medicine
As has been previously noted in the Weekly Update, the current issue of Maine Medicine is focused solely on the current status of the opioid/heroin, fentanyl crisis in the state. It will arrive on your desks by the end of this week. Please watch for it.
This edition of Maine Medicine contains a summary of a lot of the current initiatives in the state aimed at providing more treatment to those individual struggling with a substance use disorder. Data is also presented demonstrating the substantial decrease in the prescribing for pain of opioids in the state. While there is still a lot of work to be done, Maine has seen the greatest decrease of opioid prescribing in the nation when both scripts and dosages are considered. This is particularly notable given that six to eight years ago Maine had the most scripts in the nation for extended-release opioids on a per capita basis.< Previous Article | Next Article >
