Mayhew to be Appointed to Lead U.S. Medicaid
Mary Mayhew, Governor LePage's DHHS Commissioner and former Maine gubernatorial candidate and a vocal critic of the Medicaid expansion referendum in Maine passed by the voters in 2017, is reported to have been chosen to become Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Director of Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, or CHIP. She would replace Tim Hill, currently the acting Deputy Administrator and Director.
The news comes on the same day as the release of a new national study from the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office and the National Center for Health Statistics showing that low-income people in states that have not expanded Medicaid are much more likely to forgo necessary medical care than the poor in states which have accepted expansion.
The appointment news comes from DC-based reporters from Politico and The Hill and is reported in the Portland Press Herald.< Previous Article | Next Article >
