Legislature’s Coverage Task Force Issues Report
The Maine Legislature’s Task Force on Health Care Coverage
for All of Maine issued its final report last week. It has issued
recommendations in three subject areas.
The first recommendations relate to the task force itself
and legislative oversight of health reform proposals, including centralizing
oversight of health care reform in the Insurance and Financial Services
Committee, to be renamed the Committee on health Care, Insurance, and Financial
Services. It also suggests reestablishing the task force in the next
legislative session to continue its work.
The second set of recommendations suggest proposing
legislation to address the transparency, accountability, and oversight of
pharmacy benefit managers, as well as to consider changing the Maine Health
Data Organization’s structure, funding, and capacity for reporting and
analyzing health care costs and quality.
The third set recommend that a variety of areas be studied
further. Those include prescription drug pricing, responses to changes in
federal law and regulations, and looking carefully at the regulatory structure
of Maine’s health insurance market.
