The 129th Maine Legislature convened on Wednesday at the State House, with MMA President Robert Schlager, MD, serving as Doctor of the Day. Senators elected Troy Jackson of Allagash as Senate President and House members re-elected Sara Gideon of Freeport as Speaker. At a joint convention of the bodies on Wednesday afternoon, Bangor attorney and current House member Aaron Frey was elected as Attorney General.
The MMA Board of Directors met last Wednesday in the newly renovated conference room in the Frank O. Stred Office Building which houses the MMA offices. The Directors took action on a number of interests to Maine physicians.
As in the neighboring state of New Hampshire, fewer Mainers have signed up for health insurance under the ACA exchange than in previous years. Open enrollment closes on Dec. 15.
