Maine on the Short End of Federal Opioid Funding
Maine received $4.4 million, compared to Delaware and Rhode Island which tied for 10th place and each received $12.5 million. Both of those states have smaller populations than Maine's. New Hampshire, with a similar population, received $22.8 million based on its third-highest per capita overdose rate.
The money came through the State Opioid Response grant program, using funding from the 21st Century Cures Act.
Maine's congressional delegation is already working for a better funding model for 2019.
