This past Friday,Governor-elect Janet Mills nominated former Portland Police Chief Michael Sauschuck to the position of Commissioner of the Department of Public Safety. She also nominated the current warden at the Maine State Prison, Randall Liberty, to serve as Commissioner of the Department of Corrections.

Legislature's Presiding Officers Announce Committee Assignments

Committee assignments for the 129th Legislature were announced this past week. This may be the first time in Maine's history that the Health and Human Services Committee is chaired by two physicians. Geoffrey Gratwick, M.D. is the Senate Chair, and Patricia Hymanson, M.D. is the House Chair. In addition, first time Senator Ned Claxton, M.D. will also serve on the Committee.
