MMA Launches Search for new Executive Vice President
With the anticipated retirement in 2019 of Gordon Smith, Esq. as Executive Vice President of the Maine Medical Association, the Association is taking steps to find a new person for the position. The Board recently decided that the position will be re-titled Chief Executive Officer (CEO).
Jeanne Lambrew, nominated by Governor Mills to be Maine's next Commissioner of Health & Human Services, convened a meeting last Thursday so that she and other high-level DHHS staff could meet with a variety of stakeholders who have been involved in the process to expand MaineCare coverage.

Several actions related to the pricing of drugs took place in Washington, D.C. this past week.
The 29 Member MMA Board of Directors will meet on this coming Wednesday at 4:00pm for its first regularly scheduled meeting of 2019. The meeting will be held at the MMA offices in Manchester, Maine and any MMA member is invited to attend.
Senator Angus King (I-ME) has announced his support for three bills in the U.S. Senate designed to reduce the cost of prescription drugs. The bills would, if passed, prohibit manufacturers from claiming tax deductions for consumer advertising, allow patients, pharmacists and wholesalers to import drugs from Canada and other major countries, and allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices.
