New State Biennial Budget Proposes Funds for Medicaid Expansion, Opioid Response
Governor Mills has proposed a two-year state budget that sets health care as its first priority without raising taxes. It would
fund Medicaid expansion, using moneys from the state's general fund account. The budget allots $5.5 million to address the opioid crisis and $10 million to tobacco and nicotine prevention, particularly directed toward preventing use by youth and young adults. It also commits significant funds to rebuilding the public health infrastructure. Governor Mills will deliver
her budget address to a joint session of the Legislature Monday evening,
February 11.
