MMA Pursues Prior Authorization Reform in 129th Maine Legislature

In response to substantial complaints from the front lines of medicine in Maine about the burden of health insurance carrier prior authorization processes, the MMA is working with Senator Geoffrey Gratwick, M.D. as the prime sponsor of L.D. 705, An Act Regarding the Process for Obtaining Prior Authorization for Health Insurance Purposes in the current session of the legislature. Maine Seeks Federal Waiver to Assist Opioid Response

The Maine Department of Health and Human Services says it plans to ask the federal government for a Section 1115 waiver to allow the State to seek new ways to deliver and pay for health care services. The purpose of the waiver will be to give Maine more flexibility in spending Medicaid (MaineCare) dollars to address the opioid situation.
