Maine Legislature Will Discuss Health Care Reform Later this Year The Health Coverage, Insurance & Financial Services (HCIFS) Committee has carried over four bills to its Second Regular Session beginning in January 2020 and will meet several times during the Fall to discuss health care reform issues. For several weeks, the MMA has had a very brief (2 questions) survey in the field seeking physicians' opinions on the topic of health care reform. A gathering organized by the Bangor Area Recovery Network last Thursday recognized those lost to drug overdose, but it focused on hopes for recovery from substance use disorder. Lyme disease remains the most common tickborne disease in Maine. Providers reported over 1,400 cases in 2018 (preliminary data as of 3/25/19). While ticks can be active at any temperature above freezing, they are most active in warmer months. May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month in Maine, and the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) is asking health care providers to help stress the importance of tick education.
MMA Legislative Call Tuesday, May 21st The Maine Legislature is in full swing, with over 1760 bills printed. As we approach statutory adjournment date (June 19th), public hearings and work sessions are beginning to tail off while voting on bills increases.
