MMA Gathers for Annual Session in Bar Harbor This Weekend
Join your physician colleagues this weekend, September 6-8, for the Maine Medical Association's 165th Annual Session. The Portland Identification and Early Referral (PIER) program, developed by Maine Psychiatrist William McFarlane, MD of Maine Medical Partners, is featured in a recent New York Times article. The program is based on the idea that an impending psychotic break can be prevented if identified early and treated appropriately.
US CDC Asks Physician Help on Vape-related Lung Diseases
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is asking physicians around the country to report possible cases of vaping-associated pulmonary illness to their state public health departments or CDCs.
A just-published resource in the New England Journal of Medicine contains an excellent interactive resource on how the climate crisis is impacting health care and health care systems, and what health care providers can be doing about it.
The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Maine CDC) is hosting a public stakeholder meeting on September 12th at 5:00 pm to seek input for its new rule required by An Act to Enact the Maine Death with Dignity Act. The Home Health industry is looking toward significant changes on January 1, 2020 related to the Medicare reimbursement and payment. The industry will transition to a Patient Driven Grouper Model (PDGM) which will require a greater focus and importance on the Primary Diagnosis. The Primary Diagnosis will be a key factor in determining home health reimbursement as well as patient care and services.
August is Vaccine Awareness Month, and the US CDC has developed a series of videos to help pediatricians and others talk about vaccines with their patients.
