2019 AMA Interim Meeting is Underway in San Diego

The MMA is represented at the meeting at the Manchester Grand Hyatt hotel in San Diego by state delegates Richard Evans, M.D. and Maroulla Gleaton, M.D.; physiatry representative Kenji Saito, M.D., J.D.; medical students Taylor Ouellette (UNECOM) and Tyler Lang (Tufts Maine Track); and CEO Andrew MacLean, J.D.

You can find meeting information on the AMA web site here

During the opening session of the House of Delegates on Saturday, November 16th, long-time Rhode Island Medical Society EVP Newell Warde, Ph.D. received a Medical Executive Lifetime Achievement Award, the highest honor given by the AMA to a medical society staff person. Gordon Smith received this award in 2018.

In addition to policy-making and various educational opportunities involving all of the Maine team, Dr. Evans serves on two important AMA working groups - the Compensation Committee and the Election Reform Task Force. The Election Reform Task Force is looking at ways to improve the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of campaigns for AMA offices. Prescription drug prices and the vaping epidemic are just two of many public policy matters being addressed during the meeting.

The meeting concludes tomorrow.
