Maine Medical Association Statement on Systemic Racism
The Maine Medical Association stands in unwavering solidarity with our Black members and coworkers, and every Black person, both in and outside our communities, speaking out against systemic racism and acts of police violence. We unequivocally oppose racism and discrimination and we firmly support inclusiveness and diversity.
Clinician for Climate Action Cheryl Holder has noticed the rise of a different epidemic among vulnerable and low-resource populations. She is witnessing first hand the impact of climate change on the health of her patients and advocates for comprehensive medical prevention and care strategies to address inequities. The Maine Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) will use nearly $1 million in federal funding awarded this week for a program to help Maine people cope with the psychological effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Governor Mills this week outlined the new agreement with IDEXX and the increased in test processing capacity, expanded testing sample sites and broadening the testing population.
The AMA has continued to press HHS to swiftly distribute funds to assist those physicians who have not previously received any money from the Provider Relief Fund. We are pleased the Department announced it is moving forward to provide some relief.
Hanley Intern Joins Maine Medical Association
MMA members and staff is proud to welcome Hajna Nagy to our offices, both virtual and otherwise this summer. Hajna is part of the Hanley Center’s summer Undergraduate Healthcare Leadership Internship (UHLI) Program.
In response to a Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) request for information, the AMA made a number of recommendations to reduce and prevent rising rates of maternal mortality and morbidity and to ensure access to high-quality care for patients in rural communities.
Maine Medical Association is seeking physicians in the following specialties to perform Peer Reviews: cardiology, neurology, endocrinology and orthopedics. You will be compensated for your time reviewing records and writing a report.
Nominations for the 2020 award are due by July 31. The award is presented each year by the Maine Medical Association to recognize the humanitarian service of medical volunteers who serve in Maine, the US or abroad.

At this time, we are aware of 6 active or retired physician candidates for the 130th Maine Legislature and we wanted to make you aware of their candidacies and of opportunities to provide financial support for the campaigns if you are so inclined.
