MMA Statement on Racism Featured by Portland Press Herald
Maine organizations taking a public stand against racism, injustice.
Co-chairs, Dr. Geoff Gratwick (state senator) and Dr. Patty Hymanson (state representative) invited Maine Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner Jeanne Lambrew to a special meeting of the Maine Legislature’s Committee on Health and Human Services late last week.
With the COVID-19 pandemic, vaccine ordering has significantly declined over the last 3 months. If this trend continues, by August over 80,000 child and adolescent vaccines would not have been ordered and given. The Maine CDC is working on a strategy to ensure that children are up to date with their vaccinations. They are asking health care organizations to complete this brief survey by 6/22, to assist in the planning process.
Primary Elections determine each qualified party’s nomination of candidates for federal offices (other than President) and qualified State and County offices. Party candidates who are elected at the Primary qualify to appear on the November General Election ballot.
The Maine Department of Health and Human Services released a proposed rule this week proposing the following changes to MaineCare reimbursement for hospitals.
It is not too soon to begin discussing post-pandemic health care policy.
Nominations for the 2020 award are due by July 31. The award is presented each year by the Maine Medical Association to recognize the humanitarian service of medical volunteers who serve in Maine, the US or abroad.
The 2020 Census Is Happening Now
Responses to the 2020 Census will inform funding for clinics, Medicare, the Children's Health Insurance Program, and other health care assistance programs.

State legislators have historically given great weight to physician opinions in Augusta, and certainly appreciate the work you do to keep their constituents healthy. However, the voice of physicians is being diluted in many debates. At this time, we are aware of 6 active or retired physician candidates for the 130th Maine Legislature and we wanted to make you aware of their candidacies and of opportunities to provide financial support for the campaigns if you are so inclined.
