Updated Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) Information

The federal CARES Act—a big coronavirus relief bill aimed at supporting small businesses through the current pandemic – was signed into law in March. One section of the law is the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). The PPP is a loan, potentially forgivable, designed to provide a direct incentive for small businesses, including physician practices, to keep their employees on the payroll. The program was then expanded in April to include more funding. *Note: The deadline to apply for the PPP passed on June 30 at 11:59pm.

Information on PPP loans for practices that applied can be found on the Small Business Administration’s website, including frequently updated FAQs for Lenders and Borrowers. Federal rules concerning the PPP can be found here. The Small Business Administration will forgive loans if all employee retention criteria are met, and the funds are used for eligible expenses. Click here to read more about PPP loan details, including amendments to eligibility provisions, application forms for loan forgiveness and loan forgiveness rules
