State Pediatricians Working With Governor's Office on School Re-opening
The Maine American Academy of Pediatrics (Maine AAP) has been working with the Maine Department of Education (DOE), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), and the Maine CDC to compile back to school guidance covering topics from mask wearing to clinical recommendations for returning to school after exposure or positive tests. On June 9, 2020, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced the distribution of fifteen billion dollars from the Provider Relief Fund to eligible providers who (1) participate in their state's Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), and (2) have not received a payment from the Provider Relief Fund General Distribution. In March 2019, Governor Mills signed into law a Bill passed by the Maine Legislature that, among other provisions, directed the repeal of the lifetime 24-month coverage and payment limit under MaineCare for buprenorphine and naloxone combination, and methadone for the treatment of addiction. By removing the lifetime limit, members may access MAT with methadone for as long as medically necessary, with no lifetime cap on services. Read More

For the week ending August 16th, over 1.8 million new COVID-19 cases, and 39,000 new deaths, were reported to WHO. This brings the cumulative total to 21.2 million confirmed COVID-19 cases, including 761,000 deaths. In the past seven days, the number of reported daily cases rapidly increased with an average of 260,000 cases and 5,500 deaths. Read More
