MMA Board of Directors Welcomes New Leaders

The Maine Medical Association Board of Directors last week welcomed new leadership during their regularly scheduled meeting last week. 

Erik Steele, D.O., a family medicine physician at Martin’s Point will serve as Board Chair. He succeeds psychiatrist, Jeffrey Barkin, M.D., who will continue to serve on the Executive Committee. Dr. Barkin was recognized for his stellar leadership and dedication by board members.

Dr. Steele has been practicing since 1991, earned his D.O. at the University of New England, College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biddeford. He completed his residency in family medicine at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. He is certified by the American Board of Family Medicine and an active member of the American Academy of Family Physicians

Other board members elected to serve in leadership positions were: 

Michael Parker, M.D., Treasurer. 

Dr. Parker is board certified by the American Board of Urology and practices at the St. Mary’s Health System Center for Family Urology in Lewiston. He earned his medical degree through the Universidad Autonoma de Guadelajara, Jalisco and completed an internship at Children's Hospital of Michigan and residency at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center


Samuela Manages, M.D., at-large member of the Executive Committee. 

Dr. Manages is a family medicine physician practicing at St. John Valley Health Center. She earned her medical degree from the Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and completed residency  through the Ross University School of Medicine. She also is board certified in Family Medicine and a member of Maine American Academy of Family Physicians Board of Directors. 

“I am delighted to welcome more highly talented physician advocates to leadership positions within the MMA and have additional expertise on the Executive Committee,” said Andrew MacLean, MMA CEO. “I’m very much looking forward to working more closely with Drs. Steele, Parker, and Manages in the coming years.”
