FDA to revise vaccine fact sheets on increased risk of myocarditis

Maine DHHS announced this week that MaineCare’s temporary policy changes and guidance regarding its COVID-19 response will not end upon the expiration of Maine’s State of Civil Emergency on June 30th.

·      MaineCare’s COVID-19 temporary policy changes and guidance apply for the duration of the federal Public Health Emergency (PHE).

·      The federal PHE was renewed in April and is currently valid through July 19, 2021.

·      In January 2021, the Acting Secretary announced that the Biden Administration would likely continue the PHE through the end of calendar year 2021. Read More


Maine Secretary of State seeking physician volunteers

Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows is asking the Maine Medical Association tom provide recommendations to fill vacancies on the Medical Advisory Board for licensing drivers in the State of Maine.

The Medical Advisory Board is comprised of physicians and motor vehicle staff and consists of 8-10 physicians from various specialties. State law requires the board include the specialties of cardiology, gerontology, internal medicine, neurology or neurosurgery, ophthalmology. Psychiatry, family medicine, and rehabilitative medicine.

The board advises the Secretary of State on matters relating to medical conditions, vision standards, and driving. The board, or individuals may also be asked to evaluate reports submitted by clinicians on whether a person is medically competent to operate a motor vehicle on public roads.

By law, the board must meet at least every 2 years, but traditionally has met twice a year, usually on the first Friday of April and November from noon to 3:00 p.m. Expense reimbursement is provided.
