Loan and Trust Committee Approves $515,000 in Loans to Medical Students from Maine

MMA's  Loan and Trust Committee met this past week and approved over half a million dollars in loans to medical students from Maine. These funds are available from the Maine Medical Education Foundation, a non-profit foundation established by the Maine Medical Association in 1962.

The committee reviewed applications from 51 MD candidates and 7 DO candidates and approved loans to 57 of these students. First and second year students were loaned $5,000, third year students $10,000 and 4th year students $15,000. New loans were limited to $5,000. Students who requested a lower loan amount than what was approved were awarded the amount requested. The total amount loaned will be $515,000.

The Loan and Trust Committee is chaired by Mark Bolduc, M.D. of Waterville. Kenneth Christian , M.D. of Holden is the Vice Chair.

Loans from the Foundation are serviced by the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME). Information on the loans and eligibility criteria can be found on the Association's website at www.mainemed.com.
