Egg Consumption Associated With Increased Risk of Cardiovascular Disease

A New York Times story reports an analysis of six prospective studies connects egg consumption with increased cardiovascular risk.

The New York Times (3/15, Bakalar) reports an analysis examining data from six prospective studies involving almost 30,000 participants “found that for each additional 300 milligrams a day of cholesterol...there was a 17 percent increased risk of cardiovascular disease and an 18 percent increased risk of premature death from any cause.”

Furthermore, “each additional half-egg a day was associated with a 6 percent increased risk of cardiovascular disease and an 8 percent increased risk of early death.”

The research was published in JAMA.
