Beijing Auto to Reconsider Saab After Partner Exits

Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. will “cautiously” reconsider plans to buy a stake in General Motors Co.’s Saab unit after partner Koenigsegg Group AB walked away from a deal, it said in an e-mailed statement today. Beijing Auto was rebuffed by GM in July when it bid for the Detroit-based carmaker’s Ruesselsheim, Germany- based Opel unit.

G.M. to Decide Saab's Fate Next Week

DETROIT — General Motors said it could decide next week to close its Saab Automobile unit after the Swedish company that planned to buy the brand backed out. Closing the brand, as G.M. initially planned to do if it could not find a buyer, is a strong possibility, two people with direct knowledge of the company’s plans said. The other options for G.M. are to seek another buyer or keep Saab, though both those steps are considered less likely.

Toyota to Replace 3.8 Million Gas Pedals

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said today that Toyota Motor Corp. has identified a vehicle-based remedy to fix a sudden acceleration safety issue that arose when floor mats trapped accelerator pedals in some Toyota and Lexus models. Toyota will reconfigure the accelerator pedal, and in some cases the shape of the floor surface under the pedal, to address the risk that unsecured or ill-fitting mats can interfere with the gas pedal, NHTSA said in a statement.

Community Rallies to Support Auto Dealer

CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- A GM Dealership is pulling out all the stops to keep its doors open. Don Ledford Automotive is one of the 2,400 GM dealers that had its franchise pulled. The dealer has already appealed twice, now he's asking for the community's help. Within two hours, more than 2,000 signatures were collected and the dealer hopes that by the end of the day they have enough to keep their franchise open. "We're rallying our troops together, the community, our customers, our vendors, everybody to voice their opinion about keeping us here in Cleveland," said (General Manager Debbie Melton.)

Committed to Community: Charitable Foundation Seeks New Ambassadors

New-vehicle dealers are consistently among the greatest supporters of charitable organizations in their communities. Despite the tough times, dealers can still make a lasting impact by becoming an Ambassador of the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation (NADCF). "There is no better way to say 'Thank You' to your community for their support of your business than to become an NADA foundation ambassador," says Dale Willey, chairman of the Ambassadors program. With a one-time contribution of $10,000, individuals can become ambassadors and provide an organization of their choice $1,500 every three years forever. The $10,000 donation is also tax-deductible. There are now nearly 500 foundation ambassadors. The newest ambassadors are Ford Chief Executive Alan Mulally and Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc. Other industry-related ambassadors are AutoNation Inc. and the Ford Commercial Truck Dealers. For more information about the program or to sign up, visit www.nada.org/cf.
