Editor's Note: Because the Senate is likely to take up financial reform this week, NADA's legislative office is urging dealers to immediately ramp up efforts to secure additional votes for the amendment introduced by Sen. Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) Sen. Brownback’s amendment would exempt auto dealers from the proposed Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection, which can impose new regulations on auto dealers and subject some dealers to supervisory examinations and background check requirements. These rules and duties will ultimately reduce and, in some cases, eliminate car buyers’ access to affordable credit for their vehicle purchases. Dealers should contact both of their Senators through the capitol switchboard at 202-225-3121  For arguments in support of the Brownback amendment, click here.
