Editor’s Note: NADA Legislative Affairs urges ALL dealers to contact their senators to ask them to the support the Brownback amendment and to remind senators that the financial reform legislation is much broader than just a Wall Street reform bill. On Tuesday, more than 100 dealers will be on Capitol Hill to add to the growing support for the Brownback amendment. The fly-in coincides with a procedural vote to determine how the Senate will proceed on the legislation. A vote on the Brownback amendment could occur as early as next week. "Senators need to be reminded that 'main street' auto dealers had nothing to do with the financial crisis," said David Regan, NADA vice president for Legislative Affairs. Under the Brownback amendment, dealers remain regulated by the Federal Trade Commission, Federal Reserve Board and state consumer protection agencies, instead of the proposed Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection. "This is overkill. This new bureau would have almost unlimited authority to regulate the business practices of dealers," Regan added. Senators can be reached through the Capitol switchboard at (202) 225-3121. To locate your Senators visit: www.senate.gov. For arguments in support of the Brownback amendment, visit www.NADA.org/Brownback.
