Republican Voinovich of Ohio to Back Small-Business Incentives in Senate Bill

Editor's Note: NADA, together with a coalition of small business trade associations, supports the Senate small business bill because it increases the maximum loan the Small Business Administration can guarantee from $2 million to $5 million. Since dealers on average hold about $5 million in inventory at one time, this greater guarantee should give lenders who participate in the SBA’s Dealer Floorplan Financing Program a greater comfort level to offer floorplan financing. The bill will face some difficulty when it returns to the House due to its differences with the House-passed version.

Highway Deaths Fall to Lowest Level Since 1950

Editor's Note: In response to the Transportation Department's report that highway deaths fell to their lowest level since 1950, NADA Chairman Ed Tonkin issued the following statement:

"The reduction in highway deaths is a success story that reflects the efforts of many, including the nation's new car and truck dealers, who provide top notch service and help ensure that vehicles meet the strictest of safety standards. Dealers also have pushed hard to enact state seat belt laws, recognizing their importance in preventing injuries from auto accidents. Likewise, the nation’s car dealers are among the strongest advocates for child passenger safety, offering free child safety seat inspections at their dealerships each year to educate parents about the critical importance of properly securing all children – on every trip, every time. While we applaud this success and all of the groups responsible including automakers, government regulators and law enforcement we also recognize that reducing traffic fatalities is an ongoing challenge, and the nation's auto dealers will continue to be an important part of this national effort."
