Editor's Note: The following is a statement by NADA in response to Congress' passing the small business bill. "This is good news for auto dealers and good news for the economy, but we still need banks to lend. The fact is, many credit worthy dealers are still having a tough time getting the credit they need to purchase vehicle inventory. The SBA program should increase the availability of wholesale credit. Dealers especially appreciate the leadership of Sen. Mary Landrieu (D-La.) who successfully pushed for expansion of the program and passage of the legislation. NADA will now reach out to lenders to increase interest in the program.”

Opinion: GM, Chapters 1 to 10
By Holman W. Jenkins, Jr.

The whole story of why GM failed has yet to be told

(CAFE has) undermined the homegrown, UAW-staffed auto makers by forcing them to throw capital at cars they couldn't deliver profitably, and that undermined their reputation for quality. (Read more)

Editor's Note: NADA is continuing to advocate for a single national fuel economy standard under the CAFE law. NADA opposes state regulation of fuel economy standards, which will result in a “patchwork” of conflicting standards. The current policy bias towards allowing California regulators to set national fuel economy policy will result in a reduction of vehicle choice and higher costs for consumers, for no environmental benefit.

"The vigorous start to September is an indication that vehicle buyers delayed some of their purchases in late August, and were most likely waiting for Labor Day sales and hoping for increases in vehicle availability."
