Reborn Chrysler Financial Plans Big NADA Push

Chrysler Financial, under new ownership, will be looking to sign up dealers at the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in San Francisco in February to propel its new-vehicle financing business from next to nothing today to a goal of $1 billion per month by 2013. To do that, Chrysler Financial will need about 5,000 dealers in the United States and Canada, the company said, implying it will look beyond Chrysler-brand dealers. Chrysler Group has about 2,300 dealers in the United States. Last week, Toronto's TD Bank Group said it will buy the former captive finance company from Cerberus Capital Management for about $6.3 billion in cash.

Reintroducing Fiat to the U.S.

For Laura Soave and 135 carefully selected Fiat dealers, this is showtime. The first Fiat 500s -- Cinquecentos to Europhiles -- will begin rolling into dealerships early next year. By March, those dealers will open about 160 new or remodeled showrooms. Some own more than one. "You used to have to be pretty wealthy to appreciate an Italian automobile such as a Ferrari or Maserati," said Soave, head of the Fiat brand for North America. "Now we can bring that experience into another category." Soave, who grew up in Sterling Heights, is determined to revive Fiat in the U.S. after a 27-year absence.

Hyundai-Kia Eyes No. 4 Spot in Global Auto Sales

With Hyundai-Kia Automotive Group's global sales reaching 5.7 million cars this year, attention is turning to whether it will overtake the Renault-Nissan alliance to become the world's fourth largest carmaker. Hyundai ranked fifth last year, with Toyota on top followed by GM, Volkswagen, and Renault-Nissan. Hyundai sold 3.30 million cars worldwide from January through November this year and Kia 1.91 million, for a combined total of 5.22 million. The figure is an increase of 23 percent compared to last year, which is the highest growth rate in the industry. The company's sales goal for next year is 6.4 million, up 12 percent from this year's figure. According to consulting firm IHS Global Insight, global demand for vehicles is expected to increase 7 percent from 70 million this year to 75 million next year.

Chinese Automaker to Unveil 2 New Cars

BYD hybrid, electric crossover to debut at Detroit auto show

BYD Co. Ltd., one of the most widely watched of China's emerging automakers, plans to unveil two advanced technology vehicles at the Detroit auto show next month: an all-electric 2012 e6 crossover, and a S6DM hybrid. BYD, a battery-maker that branched out into the auto business, said Thursday it also will display solar panels, home energy storage units and other environmentally friendly products and technologies in its "Green City Solutions" exhibit. BYD, which counts U.S. billionaire Warren Buffett among its investors, is one of China's most closely observed automakers because of its battery expertise. The company plans to export vehicles to the United States in the near future.

NADA Convention to Offer Workshop for Dealers on How to Effectively Add Videos to Online Marketing Mix

McLEAN, Va. – Auto dealers who create and optimize videos can increase their visibility on search engines, such as YouTube and Google, and capture high volumes of traffic to boost sales, says Sean Bradley, CEO of Dealer Synergy Inc., an Internet sales consulting and training company based in Philadelphia, Pa. “YouTube is the world’s second largest search engine and videos properly optimized will rank high on the site as well as Google,” says Bradley, who will present “Increase Traffic and Engagement Through Video” at the 2011 NADA Convention & Expo in San Francisco on Feb. 5, 6 and 7. “Videos have a higher relevancy as content on search engines, meaning that a video properly optimized for search engines will show up faster in Web searches and with a higher ranking than websites, web pages and images,” he says.
