'Virtual' expo still open for business for the next six months
The 2012 NADA Convention and Expo, held Feb. 3-6 in Las Vegas, drew about 22,000 total attendees, an increase of 22% from last year. It also marked the first time that both the NADA and American Truck Dealers (ATD) conventions were held simultaneously in the same city. For the next six months, the virtual NADA and ATD expos are still open for business at www.nadaconventionandexpo.org. “It’s a virtual one-stop shop that offers dealers and their managers the opportunity to locate exhibitors and find the products and services they need to improve their business operations,” says Steve Pitt, NADA vice president of conventions and expositions. The 2013 NADA convention will be held in Orlando, Fla., from Feb. 8-11. The 2013 ATD convention will be held in Tampa, Fla., April 19-22.

MyFord Touch, MyLincoln Touch Revisions Coming to Dealers, Customers

Dealers should start receiving packets from Ford Motor Co. [Monday] containing USB drives with the revised version of the controversial MyFord Touch and MyLincoln Touch infotainment systems. On Thursday, the company will mail packets containing the USB drives, also known as thumb drives, to about 300,000 customers who bought vehicles with the first generation of the systems. In letters accompanying the thumb drives, Ford will explain to customers that they can upgrade their systems, but if they are uncomfortable doing that, they can go to dealers for the installation. Fiat Is 'Winning' with Charlie Sheen Ad

Hollywood actor and warlock Charlie Sheen is getting a second chance, this time from Fiat. The Italian car company's latest commercial for its tiny Fiat 500 Abarth prominently features Sheen, whose career took a nosedive last year amid several public breakdowns. The ad, released [last] week, acknowledges the crazed-bad boy persona Sheen has developed -- and exploits it. "The Fiat 500 Abarth is the bad boy of the Fiat vehicle lineup, and Charlie Sheen personifies the edgy and fun attributes of the Fiat 500 Abarth," said Olivier Francois, who also serves as Chrysler's chief marketing officer. The NADA Story

The NADA story began in 1917 when 30 auto dealers traveled to the nation’s capital to convince Congress not to impose a luxury tax on the automobile. They successfully argued that the automobile is a necessity of American life, not a luxury. From that experience was born the National Automobile Dealers Association. Today, NADA represents nearly 16,000 new-car and -truck dealerships with 32,500 franchises, both domestic and international. For more information, visit www.nada.org.
