NADA Extends Deadline to Participate in Dealership Workforce Study to May 15

Because of strong participation in NADA's Dealership Workforce Study, the deadline for NADA and ATD members to participate has been extended to May 15, 2012. "So far, we've had a great response to the study. We do not want dealers to miss out on the benefits of participating," said Michelle Primm, chair of NADA's Dealership Operations Committee. "We're extending the deadline so that every NADA and ATD member has the opportunity to be represented in this groundbreaking study."

Participating dealers will receive at no charge the Basic Report comparing their individual dealership to the regional and national industry as well as the Driven Management Guide summary report. The report will provide dealers with solid data to make competitive compensation and benefits decisions and enhance the dealership's recruitment efforts.

There is no cost to participate in the study. All information will remain secure and anonymous. "It's fast and easy to participate," added Primm, a new-car dealer in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. "Dealers have told us that the entire process, including responding to the online survey and uploading payroll data, takes less than an hour to complete."

The NADA University staff will work with dealership chains to provide an aggregate pull of their payroll data, instead of submitting data separately for individual dealerships. If you have any questions, contact NADA University's customer service at (800) 557-6232. Visit www.nadaworkforcestudy.com to participate.

Chrysler Group LLC made strong commitments to downtown Detroit on Monday, as CEO Sergio Marchionne confirmed that he and up to 70 workers will set up a downtown office in a building that will be renamed the Chrysler House. The office inside the former Dime Building, on Griswold, marks the first office presence in Detroit for the automaker. Later Monday, Chrysler agreed to be a $3 million sponsor for the planned light-rail system linking downtown with the New Center area.

The Pros and Cons of Diesel Cars

High gas prices heading into summer aren't unusual, but with the price per gallon of regular unleaded hovering near $4, car buyers are likely going to be looking for a way to reduce fuel consumption, says Paul Taylor, chief economist at the National Auto Dealers Association in McLean, Va. "If Americans were to become convinced that gas prices were permanently higher, that certainly would increase the interest in diesels," he says. "They attain stronger mileage, and they are certainly going to be attractive as gas prices move up." A typical diesel engine gets around 30 percent better fuel economy than its gas counterpart. That's a big advantage, Taylor says.

Dealership Tallies More Than 700 Hail-Damaged Cars

There was simply nothing they could do as the latest powerful storm to hit the St. Louis region bore down on them — nothing but hope against hope that it would miss them. But on Saturday, luck ran out for Lou Fusz Buick-GMC at Page and Lindbergh. “Just about every single car on the lot — on Buick-GMC’s lot and Lou Fusz Kia — was damaged,” Service Manager Tom Treiber tells KMOX News. “Every single car.”

The NADA Story

The NADA story began in 1917 when 30 auto dealers traveled to the nation’s capital to convince Congress not to impose a luxury tax on the automobile. They successfully argued that the automobile is a necessity of American life, not a luxury. From that experience was born the National Automobile Dealers Association. Today, NADA represents nearly 16,000 new-car and -truck dealerships with 32,500 franchises, both domestic and international. For more information, visit www.nada.org.
