Toyota Remains Most Valuable Automotive Brand

Toyota was named the best automotive brand worldwide for the 11th straight year, followed closely by Mercedes-Benz and BMW, in Interbrand's ranking of the 100 most valuable brands. Apple, Google and Coca-Cola remained the top three overall brands, but Toyota wasn't far behind at No. 8, two places up from a year earlier. Toyota has been the most valuable automotive brand on the list since 2004. Interbrand, a unit of advertising giant Omnicom Group, included 13 automotive brands on its list, a number unchanged from a year earlier. New to this year's list is Land Rover, at No. 91, while Ferrari, No. 98 last year, has fallen off.

Chrysler CEO Talks Wrangler Future with Ohio Leaders

Ohio officials want to convince Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne to continue to produce the Jeep Wrangler in Toledo, its historic home

Officials from Toledo and the state of Ohio urged Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne Thursday to keep production of the next generation Jeep Wrangler in Ohio. Economic development officials and Toledo Mayor Michael Collins reacted with concern after Marchionne said last week that the next generation Wrangler could be made from aluminum and that it might be less expensive to build it at plants in Belvidere, Ill., or Sterling Heights where the company has open production capacity. After the meeting Collins said Marchionne promised to maintain the same level of employment at the Toledo Assembly Complex and to add a new product to replace the Wrangler if Chrysler moves it to another plant.

Agnellis Tighten Grip on Fiat Chrysler Ahead of Wall Street Debut

The Agnelli family has tightened its grip on Fiat by securing higher voting rights after the carmaker's merger into Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA), a statement from the Italian stock exchange shows. The move by the Agnellis' holding company, Exor, to boost its voting power at FCA to nearly 50 percent could make Fiat Chrysler less of a takeover target and reduce its options for strategic tie-ups. The Agnellis, which control Fiat Chrysler through Exor's 30 percent stake, have lifted their voting power to 46.6 percent through a shareholder loyalty scheme put in place as part of the merger.

Cadillac Readies Blitz of New Product Under New Chief

Cadillac's new boss plans a blitz of new products by 2020, from a pure battery-electric car to an ultra-luxury sedan, that he hopes will help resurrect General Motors' struggling premium brand and make it a global powerhouse. Johan de Nysschen, a former Audi and Infiniti executive who joined GM in August, shared with Reuters some key elements of his plan to revive Cadillac, in an interview last week at the Paris auto show. The centerpiece of that strategy, confirmed by de Nysschen, is an expansion of Cadillac's product portfolio, potentially from five to 10 models over the next six years.

'Green Truck of the Year' Pickup Finalists Named

"Ecological" and "truck" are two terms not commonly associated with each other, but that hasn't stopped the Green Car Journal from announcing its five finalists for its Green Truck of the Year award. The finalist pickups are the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, Ford F-150, GMC Canyon, Ram 1500 EcoDiesel and Ram 1500 HFE.
