Honda Upgrades Takata Airbag Repair Campaign in U.S. to Recall

Honda Motor Co., the automaker most affected by an auto-safety crisis involving Japanese parts maker Takata Corp., said it would upgrade a U.S. airbag repair campaign to a formal recall. The automaker is elevating its treatment of nine models sold in 13 U.S. states from a safety-improvement campaign, according to a statement on its website. The vehicles involved are some of Honda's top sellers, including the Accord sedan, Civic compact, CR-V crossover SUV and Odyssey minivan. The number of vehicles affected was not given.

GM Extends Switch Repair Deadline in Gift Card Offer

General Motors Co. said Thursday it has extended until Jan. 1 the deadline for owners of certain recalled cars with ignition switch defects to get them fixed and receive a $25 gift card. GM spokeswoman Ryndee Carney said the automaker on Wednesday moved the deadline from Dec. 1 based on dealer feedback. The additional month will give dealers more time to complete repairs, she said.

Ford's Farley to Lead Europe Operations in Job Swap

Ford global marketing chief Jim Farley will move to Germany to steer Ford of Europe and swap jobs with European boss Stephen Odell, two people familiar with the plan said. Odell, who has led European operations for Ford since 2010, will succeed Farley as head of sales, service and marketing worldwide, said the people. During his 34-year career at Ford, Odell, 59, has held a variety of marketing and sales jobs, including some with former affiliates Jaguar and Mazda. The shift will give Farley, 52, his first shot at directly running one of Ford’s regional operations.

Audi, Mercedes Notch Up Robust Sales

German auto makers benefit from demand in Europe, U.S., and China

Two of Germany's top auto makers notched up another month of robust sales growth in October on strong demand in Europe and Asia spurred by the launch of new models and the popularity of sport-utility vehicles. Audi AG said its sales rose 11% to 146,200 cars in October from the same month last year. Daimler AG said its sales of Mercedes-Benz cars rose 12% last month 140,941. Daimler benefited from the rollout of new Mercedes models.

Lincoln Opens China Dealerships to Grow Brand

Ford has opened its first three Lincoln dealerships in China as it rolls out the luxury brand in the world's largest auto market. China is crucial to the overall success of Lincoln, Ford's only luxury brand, which is being slowly revamped at a pace of one new vehicle a year. [Thursday] Lincoln opened its first three stores in Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou.
