Chrysler Renamed 'FCA US LLC'

It's the end of the road for the name Chrysler Group LLC. The Auburn Hills-based automaker Tuesday morning announced it has changed its company name to “FCA US LLC” to better align with its global parent company, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV, which officially adopted its new name in October before listing on the New York Stock Exchange. The name change does not affect the company's headquarters location in Auburn Hills, nor its holdings, management team, board or brands. That means Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne will remain at the helm of the new FCA US LLC as well as the FCA parent company.

Ford Creates New Chief Data, Analytics Officer Position

Ballew tasked with gathering flood of digital information

Ford Motor Co. is making a bigger deal of big data by appointing a global chief data and analytics officer who is tasked with pulling together the disparate efforts around the company to gather and use the enormous amount of digital information flowing in the company. Paul Ballew, who ran consulting firm Dun and Bradstreet ’s global data and analytics and previously held the same position at Nationwide Insurance Co., returns to Detroit for the position. He left General Motors Co. , where he was the chief sales analyst, for Nationwide in October 2007. The auto industry has been trying to find ways to use the huge amount of data flowing into individual companies to better forecast consumer behavior and make smarter business decisions. But until recently the successes have been scattered.

NLRB Boosts Unions' Organizing Leverage

In the most significant policy change ever undertaken by the Obama administration to strengthen the power of labor unions, a divided National Labor Relations Board issued a long-awaited final rule speeding up the union election process. The rule will require businesses to postpone virtually all litigation over eligibility issues until after workers vote on whether to join the union, thereby depriving management of a stall tactic that unions widely claim benefits the employer. In effect, regional NLRB directors will be given broad discretion to rule such litigation unnecessary until an election takes place. The regulatory shift represents a clear victory for a labor movement that has often felt taken for granted by the Obama administration.

Europe Car Sales Rise at Slowest Rate in Year on Economy

European car sales increased at the slowest pace in a year in November as waning economic growth discouraged customers from making purchases, prompting automakers including Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV to cut prices. Registrations rose 1.2 percent to 989,457 vehicles last month from 977,607 a year earlier, the Brussels-based European Automobile Manufacturers' Association, or ACEA, said. Eleven-month sales gained 5.5 percent to 12 million cars. “It's not very dynamic,” Thomas Besson, a Paris-based auto analyst at Kepler Cheuvreux, said by phone. “We'll probably have growth of around 5 percent in 2014, which is higher than what was expected at the start of the year, but it's no party time.”

Japanese Auto Supplier Moving Michigan HQ to W.Va.

A Japanese auto supplier is moving its North American headquarters from Monroe County [Mich.] to West Virginia. Diamond Electric, an auto supplier that makes ignition coils, will move its headquaters from Dundee to Eleanor, W.Va., according to West Virginia Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin. Ignition coils release electric energy that fire spark plugs. The move will consolidate the automotive ignition coil manufacturer's main U.S. office with its existing assembly plant in West Virginia.

The NADA Convention & Expo next January will be spread out across four buildings in downtown San Francisco. The Moscone Center consists of three buildings, and the Marriott Marquis is NADA’s headquarters hotel.

Moscone North and South are connected by an underground concourse and have their own entrances. The workshops will be held on level 3 in Moscone West, which is diagonally across the street from Moscone North and South.

Winners of the pedometer contest will be selected each day. The top two participants with the most steps on Thursday, Friday and Saturday will each win Fitbit Wireless Activity and Sleep Wristbands.
