Survey: Buick, Jaguar Best Ranked For Dealer Service

Buick top mass market brand; Jaguar top luxury brand for dealer service satisfaction

More trips to the dealer are being triggered by last year's record number of recalls and those consumers are happy with their service even though satisfaction with the service experience overall fell slightly last year, according to a J.D. Power survey released [Wednesday]. General Motors' Buick brand was the highest-ranked mass market brand when it comes to dealer service satisfaction for the second year in a row while Jaguar was the top luxury brand among customers in the J.D. Power 2015 U.S. Customer Service Index (CSI) study. The study measures customer satisfaction with service at a franchised dealer facility for maintenance or repair work among owners and lessees of 1- to 5-year-old vehicles.

Important Reminder for Dealers Regarding Safety Recalls

A recent news item reported that new vehicles had been delivered with open safety recalls. Federal law imposes a “stop sale” on all new, undelivered vehicles and parts subject to a safety recall. Once a dealer receives notice of a safety recall, affected new vehicles or parts may not be delivered until the defect or noncompliance is remedied. Dealers are encouraged to review their internal policies to ensure that new vehicles under recall are not being delivered to customers.

Honda Expands Takata Recalls By 104,000 Vehicles

Honda Motor Co. said Thursday it will recall another 104,000 vehicles linked to potentially faulty Takata air bags — the latest expansion of the issue that now covers more than 17 million vehicles in the United States. The bulk of the vehicles recalled are by Honda, which has reports of at least six deaths and 64 injuries connected to air bags exploding and sending deadly metal fragments flying. Honda has recalled 5.5 million vehicles since last year — and previously recalled millions more dating back to 2008. The new recall covers 88,549 2008 Honda Pilot, 10,868 2004 Civic and 5,454 2001 Accord vehicles.

There is a Ton of Dealer Profit Riding on FCA's Wrangler Decision

Deep in the bowels of Fiat Chrysler headquarters in Auburn Hills -- or Turin, or London (it’s hard to tell these days) -- the automaker’s brain trust is making its final call about what to do with the Wrangler plant in Toledo, Ohio. On its face, the decision will be of intense interest in and around the plant, for obvious economic reasons. There are hundreds, if not thousands of potential jobs on the line, and a publicly funded incentive package to parse out. But here’s something you may not have considered: FCA’s ultimate decision is likely to have an outsized impact on every dealer in the nation that sells Jeep.

GM to Largely Exit Russia By End of 2015

Russia just a few years ago was a cornerstone of General Motors Co.'s global growth strategy in developing markets, and now it's falling apart. A week after warning its business in Russia was under "serious review," the Detroit automaker said Wednesday it plans to stop selling all Opel and most Chevrolet vehicles in the Russian market by the end of the year and will idle indefinitely its 6-year-old St. Petersburg plant. The aggressive restructuring comes amid a collapse in the Russian ruble, rising interest rates, a slowing economy, deepening political issues over territorial disputes with Ukraine and no sign of improving sales in the emerging market.
