Dealers Strongly Support the Williams Rental Car Recall Amendment to Be Considered in U.S. House - Urgent Action Needed Today

The House is scheduled to vote today on an amendment offered by Rep. Roger Williams (R-Texas) which refines an overly broad Senate-passed measure requiring rental car companies to ground vehicles under recall, even for minor compliance matters with negligible impact on safety.

The Williams Amendment maintains the focus in the bill on the large, multinational rental companies that control the vast majority of rental cars in America.  Unless the Williams Amendment is adopted, it could become uneconomical for small business dealers to provide loaner or rental cars to their customers.

NADA supports a 100-percent recall completion rate, but the overwhelming majority of recalls do not require or warrant the drastic step of grounding.

Porsche, Audi Issue Stop-Sale Orders on 3.0-Liter Diesel Vehicles Amid U.S. Emissions Questions

Porsche Cars North America and Audi will discontinue sales of certain vehicles with 3.0-liter diesel engines in the U.S. after the EPA said Monday that various Volkswagen Group vehicles with those engines contained illegal software to manipulate emissions. Porsche’s stop-sale affects 2014-2016 models of the Cayenne Diesel. Porsche said it made the decision voluntarily and “in view of the unexpected U.S. EPA notice” the company received Monday. “We are working intensively to resolve this matter as soon as possible. Customers may continue to operate their vehicles normally,” Porsche said. Audi's stop-sale order covers 2013-2015 models of the Q7 equipped with the 3.0-liter diesel V6 TDI engine. It also includes various 2014-2016 model year A6, A7, A8, A8L, Q5 vehicles with those engines. No recall is planned, Audi said in an advisory to U.S. dealerships sent on Tuesday.

Auto Sales on Track for Best Year Ever

The best October auto sales since 2001 has the industry on pace to sell the most new cars and trucks ever in a single year and break the all-time record of 17.41 million vehicles set in 2000. Automakers sold 1.46 million new cars and trucks in October, the highest total for the month in 14 years — and up 13.6 percent compared to the same month a year ago, according to Autodata Corp. The strong numbers should continue through the end of the year as automakers offer more holiday and year-end incentives. Most car companies and industry analysts now predict 2015 full-year sales to reach anywhere between 17.4 million and 17.8 million vehicles.

Ford's LaNeve: 'Friends' Promo Won't Hike Cost of Spiffs

Ford Motor Co.’s “Friends & Neighbors” sale, which runs today through Jan. 4, does not discount vehicles more than the average consumer already was paying for them, the automaker’s U.S. sales chief said [Tuesday]. Instead, it’s designed to help Ford stand out from the rest of the industry during an intensely competitive time of year, said Mark LaNeve, Ford’s vice president for U.S. marketing, sales and service. “The Friends & Neighbors event does not escalate our incentive spending,” LaNeve said on a conference call to discuss Ford’s October sales, which rose 13 percent from a year ago.

Alfa Romeo will delay the sales launches of two key new models, according to sources, in a further setback for the struggling Fiat Chrysler Automobiles brand.
