Chairman Bill Fox Recaps Year of Positive Changes at NADA on Behalf of Dealers

In his final address as 2015 chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Association, Bill Fox reflected on a year in which he oversaw some significant changes at NADA - all part of the organization's ongoing efforts to best serve its 16,500 dealer members. “As the retail automotive industry has evolved, so have we,” Fox told thousands of new-car dealers and their managers and auto industry executives gathered at the 2016 NADA Convention & Expo in Las Vegas. “And the result is that we have not only survived, but we have prospered.” Under Fox's leadership, in 2015 NADA transitioned two business units - the NADA Used Car Guide and the NADART retirement plan - in order to better position each for continued growth, and to help NADA focus more energy and resources on its core mission of advocating on behalf of America's franchised new-car dealers.

VW Dealers Mobilize to Head Off Lawsuits

5-member panel tapped to lead negotiations on compensation for diesel woes

Volkswagen retailers tapped a five-member committee to open settlement talks with the automaker aimed at recovering financial damages sustained by VW’s 652 U.S. dealerships in the wake of the company's emissions crisis. The decision came at a nearly two-hour dealer-only meeting Friday on the sidelines of the National Automobile Dealers Association convention in Las Vegas, and ahead of a Saturday make meeting where VW brand Chairman Herbert Diess and North America chief Hinrich Woebcken are expected to speak to dealers. Jason Kuhn, chairman of Kuhn Automotive Group in Tampa and one of the five negotiators named to the committee, said the quintet hope to begin settlement talks with VW leadership as soon as possible. Kuhn said it was too early to discuss what forms of compensation an acceptable settlement should include.

Auto Dealers Association and MyCarDoesWhat Partner to Educate Drivers

The partnership aims to close the consumer education gap, NADA President Peter Welch said.

The National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA) has announced a partnership with the National Safety Council's MyCarDoesWhat campaign to help raise awareness of new safety features in vehicles. Research has shown that most consumers are unsure about how new, potentially life-saving, vehicle safety features work. "While our cars are getting safer, we might not be taking advantage of the new safety features on our cars as much as we can be," said Peter Welch, president of NADA. "A blind spot monitoring system can't help you if you don't have it turned on, and automatic emergency braking isn't going to keep you safe if you think it's a substitute for being an active, alert driver. As the main touch point for consumers considering new car purchases, dealers have a very natural role to play here. And by working together, hopefully we can close the consumer education gap and achieve our shared goal of getting drivers to feel comfortable and confident with all their vehicles have to offer on the safety front."
