April Autos Sell at a Pace of 17.4M

Detroit automakers reported another month of strong demand from U.S. consumers for trucks and sport utility vehicles on Tuesday, but their shares dropped as analysts focused on signs the world's second largest auto market has little room to grow. April autos sold at a pace of 17.4 million vehicles, according to Autodata.

Takata's Fight for Survival Gets Even Harder as Airbag Recall Widens

The world’s largest automotive safety recall is about to get even bigger, adding to the hurdles that Japanese airbag supplier Takata Corp. is battling to survive the crisis. Takata is in talks with U.S. regulators that could lead to the recall of millions of additional vehicles, with an announcement coming as soon as this week, according to people briefed on the matter.

VW's U.S. Slump Hits 6-Month Mark

Continued weakness in the Volkswagen brand’s core lineup of passenger cars dragged down its U.S. sales for the sixth consecutive month in April while Audi continued to flex its muscle to notch its 64th-straight monthly record. VW brand deliveries fell 9.7 percent last month to 27,112, VW’s lowest April sales since 2010. VW’s U.S. sales were off 12 percent through the first four months of 2016.

Google, Fiat Ink Deal to Make 100 Self-Driving Minivans

Google and Fiat Chrysler Automobiles said Tuesday they will collaborate to combine the tech giant’s self-driving car technology into 100 Pacifica minivans, giving the automaker a high-profile partner that could help it catch up to competitors.

Beyond GM and Ford on Gearboxes, a Dream List of Joint Ventures

The first details of the latest General Motors-Ford transmission joint venture will be made public this week. Three years ago, the rival automakers signed a deal building on their successful six-speed transmission joint development venture dating back to 2002. In the new deal, GM and Ford again agreed to pool resources for a project that would yield two transmissions for the price of one.

NADA Academy Graduate Balances Love of the Car Business with Music

After 46 years of playing the piano and 30 years working in auto retailing, Rick Zuccaro says he’s finally figured out a way to be a musician and work in the car business at the same time. Zuccaro, vice president of sales for the Carbone Auto Group in Utica, N.Y., was one of 36 dealership employees from the U.S. and Canada who recently graduated from the NADA Academy in Tysons, Va. As a parting gift, he surprised his classmates by renting a keyboard and public address system to perform at their graduation ceremony. “I truly enjoyed my NADA Academy experience, and feel it was extremely beneficial to my career,” he said. “All the instructors were nothing short of phenomenal, and all shared their wealth of knowledge so willingly.
