VW Said to Be Near Fix for 3.0-Liter Audi, Porsche Diesels

Volkswagen AG is closing in on a fix for 3.0-liter diesel-powered vehicles in the U.S. that would resolve part of its emissions-cheating scandal and reduce the risk of an expensive buyback program, people familiar with the matter said. The ongoing talks focus on ironing out final technical details and reviewing test results to ensure the reliability of a software upgrade, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the discussions are private.

Small-Car Deals Abound as U.S. Buyers Go Crazy for SUVs

Small-car sales fell more than 6 percent in the past year, and dealer inventories in April grew to their highest point in seven years

With many Americans rushing to buy trucks and SUVs, there are good deals to be had on cars, especially smaller models. In April, supplies of small cars on dealer lots grew to the highest level in seven years. Automakers are resorting to discounts and sweetened lease deals to move the metal — especially with models that haven't been updated in a few years.

Marchionne Says FCA Isn't Just Bashing Metal for Google

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV is an active partner with Alphabet Inc.’s Google to marry self-driving car technology with the automaker’s plug-in hybrid minivan, FCA Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne said. The carmaker plans to develop about 100 self-driving prototypes based on the Chrysler Pacifica hybrid-powered minivan that will be used by Google to test its self-driving technology, the companies said Tuesday.

Chevy Launches Small-Car Website to Connect with Young Buyers

Chevrolet’s small vehicles have a website all to themselves. ChevySmallCars.com, a “lifestyle-oriented” website dedicated to the Spark minicar, Sonic subcompact car and Trax subcompact crossover, is aimed at younger car buyers, who are more likely to buy the vehicles than other groups. The website features a quiz to determine which of the three vehicles make the most sense for the user and short videos produced by Funny or Die featuring comedian Al Madrigal, among other features.

Mexico Auto Exports Off 16% in April on Unfavorable Truck Mix

Mexico’s normally robust light-vehicle exports fell 16 percent in April as U.S. consumers leaned heavily toward light trucks that are not a big part of the Mexico product mix. Exports of cars and light trucks fell to 197,020 vehicles last month from 233,515 in April 2015, the Mexican Automotive Industry Association said [Monday].

Report: U.S. Sales of Buick Verano to End in 2017

News that GM might stop selling the Verano in the U.S. is the latest example of a massive shift towards the production and sale of more crossovers in the U.S. as demand for passenger cars falls

General Motors is planning to discontinue sales of the Buick Verano in the U.S. next year, according to media reports, as Detroit's automakers continue to pare back passenger car production in the U.S. and place a greater emphasis on crossovers and SUVs.

NADA Accepting 2017 Convention Workshop Proposals

The deadline to submit a workshop proposal is May 16, 2016.

The workshops are one of the main attractions at the annual NADA Convention and Expo. Nearly 16,200 participants, which included new-car dealers, dealership managers and industry professionals, attended the workshop sessions at the past convention in Las Vegas. Workshop proposals for the 2017 NADA convention, which will be held in New Orleans, can be submitted online until 5 p.m. EDT on May 16, 2016.
