NADA Launches Fundraising Campaign to Assist Louisiana Flood Victims. Donate Today

BATON ROUGE, La. – Peter Welch, NADA President, and Annette Sykora, chairman of the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation, arrived today in the flood-ravaged areas of Baton Rouge, La., meeting with dealers and dealership employees to assess the need for financial assistance.

Initial estimates indicate that more than 1,200 dealership families in Baton Rouge and surrounding areas have been flooded out of their homes and desperately need financial assistance.

“The flooding in Louisiana has been described as the worst natural disaster since Hurricane Sandy,” said Sykora, who served as NADA chairman in 2008. “Now that the flood waters have receded the real work of rebuilding begins.”

The Emergency Relief Fund of the NADA Foundation helps dealership families after natural disasters.

“At NADA, we view our dealerships as one big family. When a member of our family hurts, we all hurt,” Welch said. “That’s why it’s time to come together and help our dealership family members who are hurting in Louisiana by contributing to the NADA Foundation’s Emergency Relief Fund.”

Dealership employees affected by the flooding can apply for financial assistance through the NADA Foundation's Emergency Relief Fund. (Lost wages or commissions are not eligible for reimbursement from the fund.)

“Thousands of dealership employees and their families have suffered devastating losses from the recent flooding,” Sykora added. “The need for financial assistance will be significant and will last for several weeks to come.”

NADA is calling on its members to donate online to the Emergency Relief Fund. Checks can be made payable to NADCF Emergency Fund, c/o NADCF, 8400 Westpark Drive, MS 7, Tysons, VA 22102. For more information, call 703.821.7233.

Established in 1992, the fund has provided more than $5 million to more than 8,700 families. To apply for assistance or to contribute to the fund, call 703.821.7102 or visit www.nada.org/emergencyrelief. Source: NADA Foundation

Louisiana Flooding Takes Toll on Dealerships' Employees

Dealers scramble to do business with short staffs

As floodwaters slowly recede in the area around Baton Rouge, La., auto dealerships are trying to do business with a limited number of employees, many of whom are dealing with losses of their own. David Fabre, co-owner of the Louisiana-based Fabre Group of dealerships, said at least 26 of the 126 employees at his Baton Rouge stores have lost their homes or vehicles.

VW Dealers Battle Staff Poaching

Solution: Bonuses, buffers and 'green peas'

Since last fall, Volkswagen dealers have tried to keep it business as usual despite the German automaker's revelation that it cheated on its U.S. diesel emissions tests. To do that, dealers have had to tweak operations to not only keep customers, but keep employees, too.

Can Fast Change in Self-Driving Autos Equal Profits?

The announcements come daily, sometimes hourly. Ford pledges a self-steering, self-accelerating, self-braking car by 2021. Volvo and Uber promise 100 autonomous XC90s on Pittsburgh streets by year's end. General Motors has a handful of self-driving Chevrolet Bolts in San Francisco and Scottsdale, Ariz. As head-spinning the pace of change, no one has found a way to make money from a service delivered through a product that may not be sold to consumers anytime soon, if ever.
