NADA Video: Adopt a Dealership Family Affected by Flooding in Louisiana

BATON ROUGE, La. -- Thousands of dealership families in Baton Rouge and surrounding communities in southern Louisiana have suffered devastating losses from the recent flooding. The need for financial assistance is immense and is growing daily.

"We're asking that every dealership across the United States donate $1,000 to adopt a dealership employee family who has been affected by the flooding," said NADA President Peter Welch. “We view our dealerships as one big family. When a member of our family hurts, we all hurt. That’s why it’s time to come together to support our dealership families."

Dealership families displaced by the flooding can apply for financial assistance through the National Automobile Dealers Charitable Foundation's Emergency Relief Fund, which provides immediate financial assistance after natural disasters.

To apply for assistance or to contribute to the fund, visit www.nada.org/emergencyrelief or call 703.821.7102. Checks can be made payable to NADCF Emergency Fund, c/o NADCF, 8400 Westpark Drive, MS 7, Tysons, VA 22102.

Record Car Leasing Could Rise Even Higher

Consumers are leasing nearly one of every three new cars manufactured in the U.S. — record levels that are keeping industry sales at all-time highs. Leasing accounted for more than 31 percent of new car transactions in the first half of 2016, according to the latest available data from Experian Automotive. Once reserved mainly for luxury vehicles, leasing of mainstream vehicles has taken off. Steven Szakaly, chief economist for the National Automobile Dealers Association, believes there is plenty of room for growth. “I think this could easily be 40 percent of the market,” he said.

California Passes Toughest Greenhouse Gas Emission Curbs

California is poised to make the nation’s strictest carbon emission controls even tougher, with a bill to cut greenhouse-gas discharges to 40 percent less than 1990 levels by 2030 now headed to Gov. Jerry Brown. The state Senate gave final approval 25-13 on Wednesday, following a 42-29 vote in the Assembly Tuesday. Brown, a Democrat in his fourth term leading the most-populous state, said he intends to sign the measure. It is paired with a separate bill tightening legislative oversight of the California Air Resources Board approved Tuesday.

FTC Webinar: September 8
FTC Issues Warning to Sellers of Certain VW Vehicles

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has asked NADA to provide its members with a business blog that cautions sellers of certain VW and Audi diesel vehicles (including dealers of other brands) not to make false claims regarding the recent proposed consent orders concerning those vehicles that the Volkswagen Group of America has entered into with the FTC, other governmental agencies, and owners and lessees of the vehicles.  Details of the proposed settlements are available at VWCourtSettlement.com.  In order to enhance dealers’ understanding of both the VW buyback program that is part of the proposed settlement and the concerns set forth by the FTC in its business blog, NADA has arranged for the FTC to present information on these topics in an NADA University Online webinar that will take place on Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016 from 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. ET.  Dealers and their representatives may click here to register.
