The automotive industry is one of the biggest sectors of the American economy, and one of the largest sources of jobs among all U.S. manufacturers. As such, it has remained high on the agenda for President Donald Trump — who has now met twice with automotive leaders and alternately scolded and praised the industry in his tweets and at news events.

President Trump Says He's Willing to Consider Raising Gas Tax

President Donald Trump on Monday said he will explore the possibility of higher gasoline and diesel fuel taxes, suggesting an increase could pay for his ambitious infrastructure plan. "It's something that I would certainly consider," Trump told Bloomberg News in an interview.

Texas Car Dealership Takes Direct Hit from Tornado

A Canton, [Texas] car dealership took a direct hit when a twister roared through town Saturday evening. Interstate 20 Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Canton received widespread damage to a new showroom and maintenance facility. Dozens of cars and trucks on the parking lot were thrown like toys. Some landed on their sides and even upside down. An employee said nobody was at the dealership at the time the tornado hit.

US Consumer Spending Flat for Second Month in March

U.S. consumers cut back sharply on buying durable goods such as autos in March, leaving overall spending unchanged for a second straight month. A slowdown by consumers was a major reason overall economic growth slowed so sharply over the winter. Economists believe growth will bounce back in the current April-June period, helped by continued strong job gains, rising wages and increased consumer confidence.

Employee or Independent Contractor? Know the Rules

The IRS encourages all businesses and business owners to know the rules when it comes to classifying a worker as an employee or an independent contractor. An employer must withhold income taxes and pay Social Security, Medicare taxes and unemployment tax on wages paid to an employee. Employers normally do not have to withhold or pay any taxes on payments to independent contractors. Click here for the full article.
