U.S. October New Vehicle Sales Seen Down 4% on Year: J.D. Power and LMC

U.S. auto sales in October likely fell close to 4 percent from the same month in 2016, though automakers’ sales were buoyed by replacement of storm-damaged vehicles and record-high consumer discounts, industry consultants J.D. Power and LMC Automotive said on Thursday. October U.S. new vehicle sales will be about 1.32 million units, a drop of almost 3.7 percent from 1.37 million units a year earlier, the consultancies said. The forecast was based on the first 17 selling days of October. Automakers will release U.S. sales results for the month on Nov. 1.

Ford Heads for $41 Billion Haul From F-Series Sales

Back in the summer of 2016, there was plenty of angst in the corridors of Ford Motor Co. about the state of its cash-cow franchise, the F-Series pickup. The company was spending heavily to introduce its aluminum-bodied Super Duty trucks, suppliers were struggling to ramp up output fast enough and rival General Motors Co. was mocking the new metal as wimpy in a series of harsh TV attack ads. Fast forward a year and those jitters are long gone.

Volkswagen Net Profit Falls Sharply on Diesel Charges

‘The diesel issue is nowhere near an end,’ CFO Frank Witter says

Volkswagen AG reported a steep drop in third-quarter earnings Friday, as Europe’s biggest car maker grapples with the mounting costs of its diesel emissions scandal. The story of Volkswagen’s earnings is like a tale of two companies. When diesel-related costs are factored out, the company is raking in record profits. But the bottom line—what’s left for shareholders after all costs are stripped out—is being eroded by the scandal’s costs.

U.S. Senate Tax Bill May Not Eliminate Estate Tax

Senate Republicans might not repeal the estate tax in the pending overhaul of the tax code and instead double the exemption on money individuals or families leave for heirs, lawmakers say. Doing so would be a major backtrack on a promise Republicans have made for years. It could also help drain some ammunition from Democrats, who have sought to paint the tax bill as a giveaway for the rich. “I don’t think there’s the stomach to do a full repeal,” Senate Finance Chairman Orrin G. Hatch said.

NADA Foundation
Dealership Families Need Support Following Year of Record Natural Disasters

Donate today to the NADA Foundation's Emergency Relief Fund

This year, thousands of dealership employees and their families from Texas, Florida, Puerto Rico, California and surrounding areas have suffered devastating losses caused by a record number of hurricanes, flooding and wildfires.

"There are occurrences that can happen virtually in any state," said NADA board member Mike Alford, president of Marine Chevrolet Cadillac in Jacksonville, N.C. "As a collective dealer body, we need to pay attention and make certain that we are there for our fellow dealers in terms of helping them, either their store or their inventory or more importantly, if one of their employees has a significant loss."

NADA is calling on dealers, dealership employees and others across the country to support the NADA Foundation's Emergency Relief Fund by making a contribution today. One-hundred percent of funds go directly to dealership employees who sustained personal property damage from natural disasters.

"We can be there quickly. We can help," added Alford, the 2013 Time Dealer of the Year recipient.
