Nick Saban and Joe Theismann are among the numerous speakers slated for NADA Show 2018 in Las Vegas in March.

Saban, the head football coach at The University of Alabama, is one of five keynote speakers. He is considered one of the greatest coaches of all time with five national championship wins and many other accolades. Saban is scheduled to speak at the general session on Friday, March 23.
 
Theismann, a NFL champion quarterback, broadcaster and entrepreneur, is one of four speakers slated for the new Distinguished Speaker Series. His session, “Game Plan for Success,” which draws parallels between winning in football and business, will be held on Saturday, March 24.

7th Straight Record Year for CPO Car Sales

Certified pre-owned vehicles sales reached a seventh straight record year by the slimmest of margins. According to Autodata Corp., there was an estimated 2,645,718 CPO vehicles sold in 2017, compared to 2,642,986 sold in 2016. That’s a gain of just 0.1 percent, but it was enough to bump certified sales to their best year on record.

An SUV Tops Vehicle Sales Charts for First Time

The SUV is officially king. For the first time in decades a sedan is not the best-selling production vehicle in the United States. In 2017 that honor went to the Toyota RAV4 sport ute as it outsold the Toyota Camry sedan, reigning champ for the last 15 years. The best-selling vehicle in America for the 36th year in a row is Ford’s F-Series pickup, followed by two other full-size pickups, the Chevy Silverado and Ram 1500.

Electric Car Drivers Are Too Smart to Own Electric Cars

U.S. drivers now lease almost 80 percent of battery electric vehicles and 55 percent of plug-in hybrids, according to Bloomberg New Energy Finance. The lease rate for the country’s entire fleet hovers around 30 percent. The lopsided consumer preference for leases is fueled by the meager demand for battery-powered vehicles on the used market. Partly this is a consequence of public policy meant to spur electric vehicle adoptions: buyers of pre-owned cars can’t grab thousands of dollars in federal and state incentives. “When there’s new technology coming out, and it’s coming out so rapidly, and you’re improving on it so constantly, typically people only want to lease it,” Steve Center, a vice president of American Honda Motor Co. ...

The NADA Academy's Advanced Service Management seminar will be held at Northwood University in Cerritos, Calif., from Jan. 22-26, 2018. During the week-long seminar, NADA Academy instructor Larry Hourcle will discuss key topics that will help take dealership service departments to the next level.
