Clean Air and Transportation
The Center for Clean Air Policy has released the CCAP Transportation Emissions Guidebook: Land Use, Transit & Travel Demand Management. The guide helps users assess the air pollution, energy use, and greenhouse gas emissions benefits of a variety of transportation and land use policies. The guidebook includes policy overviews, success stories and links to key models and resources.

Tourism & Recreation in Rural Communities
Recreation, Tourism, and Rural Well-Being by Richard Reeder and Dennis Brown reports that recreation and tourism development contributes to rural well-being, increasing local employment, wage levels, and income, reducing poverty, and improving education and health. But recreation and tourism development is not without drawbacks, including higher housing costs. Local effects also vary significantly, depending on the type of recreation area.

Brownfields in Illinois
Returns to Brownfields Investments, by Norm Walzer and Gisele Hamm offers a comprehensive analysis of rural and small brownfields projects in Illinois. The report, which was released by the Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs at Western Illinois University, discusses obstacles, redevelopment impacts and explores via case study industrial redevelopments, recreation-riverfront development and downtown redevelopments. The Institute also reports the outcomes from a 2000 statewide brownfields survey conducted by the Institute.
