NADO Research Foundation Releases Two Special Reports
The NADO Research Foundation's Center for Transportation Advancement and Regional Development recently released two new reports.
Regional Alliance Pulls Toyota to Tupelo
This special report explores how three rural counties in Mississippi banded together to form a unique regional alliance that resulted in securing a new Toyota manufacturing facility. With the leadership and staff support of the Three Rivers Planning and Development District and the Community Development Foundation, the local leadership of Pontotoc, Union and Lee counties “walked the talk of regionalism” to share infrastructure costs, take advantage of a regional workforce pool and intermodal transportation system and, ultimately, share new tax revenues and benefits.
Southeast Tennessee Transportation: Positioning the Chattanooga Region in the Global Economy
This report explores how public and private sector leaders are working together to enhance the multi-modal transportation system of Southeast Tennessee, including Chattanooga, to remain competitive in today’s global economy. The report examines the role of Tennessee’s new rural transportation planning organizations in coordinating and fostering local government cooperation and involvement in the state’s transportation planning and decision-making processes. It highlights the importance of multi-state regional and global connections, the need for multi-modal access and connections, and the pressures facing state and local officials with respect to transportation investments and financing.
