NAIC Working Towards Legislation to Remove Agent and Broker Commissions from the MLR

The National Association of Insurance Commissioners convened the first meeting of its Professional Health Insurance Advisors Task Force on February 28, and a key development from the call was that, like NAHU, NAIC leadership has decided to pursue a legislative solution to remove agent and broker commissions from the federal medical loss ratio (MLR) calculation as a pass-through expense. Read More

The Road to the Supreme Court Just Got a Little More Clear

The federal Justice Department received an interesting response to their February 17 motion asking Judge Roger Vinson to clarify whether his “declaratory judgment invalidating the ‘individual mandate’ or ‘individual’ responsibility provision of the PPACA does not relieve the parties of their rights and obligations under the Act” when the judge put a stay on his own ruling last week and placed the case on an even faster track to the Supreme Court. Read More
